Even though I have made my living in MLM for over 18 years, I understand why some people actually hate MLM. I wanted to take just a moment to look at some of my own experiences and the experiences of some others to see why so many people still hate MLM.
There was a time when the term “MLM” and “Snake Oil Salesman” were synonymous. And there was good reason. These days, however, more and more businesses with real markets, real customers, and real products and services are adopting the “mlm” model for sales and distribution.

So, why do people still hate MLM if so many real businesses are involved in the industry? Frankly, much of it comes down to some shady characters within the industry. We all know, have met, or have heard about someone who took advantage of people with promises of “get rich” programs.
But real mlm businesses thrive on providing real solutions, real products, and real services to real customers.
The more I talk to people, I am starting to discover that folks don’t actually hate mlm companies. But they do hate illegal pyramid schemes. Sadly, too many people can’t actually tell the difference. For my own experience, one of the key factors to consider when looking at any mlm opportunity is: Is there a real consumer market for what the company offers. In other words, “Would customers buy this product or service from this company even if there was no compensation plan attached?” If they would, then it makes sense to continue doing your research.
Once you decide to partner up with any mlm company, be sure to realize you are starting a business. There is going to be an investment of your time and your finances involved in getting your business off the ground and building it to the point of profitability.
If you aren’t prepared to do the work required, I advise against joining any mlm business. Stick with the traditional job. But if you are ready to do the work, you will discover why so many others actually love mlm.
